Jeff Goodwin is professor of Sociology at New York University. Jeff is a past chair of the Comparative and Historical Sociology Section of the American Sociological Association. His research focuses on social movements, revolutions, political violence, and terrorism. He is best known for his book, &#8220;No Other Way Out: States and Revolutionary Movements, 1945-1991&#8243; More recently, he is the author of “Contention in Context” (Stanford University Press) and &#8220;The Social Movements Reader” (Wiley-Blackwell). Next month, Jeff will have an article in Le Monde Diplomatique tentatively titled, &#8220;Occupy Wall Street: The Challenge Ahead.&#8221;


Susan Kang is an assistant professor of political science at City University of New York where she teaches a course on international relations and does research on human rights and trade union movements. She is currently involved in #OccupyWallStreet and been active in the demands working group at Zuccotti Park.


Dr. Gareth Porter is an investigative historian and journalist on US national security policy with Inter-Press Service. Dr. Porter is the author of, most recently, “Perils of Dominance: Imbalance of Power and the Road to War in Vietnam.” (University of California Press). Gareth was both a Vietnam specialist and an anti-war activist during the Vietnam War and was Co-Director of Indochina Resource Center in Washington. He taught international studies at City College of New York and American University. He was the first Academic Director for Peace and Conflict Resolution in the Washington Semester program at American University. Paul Harris is the US correspondent of British papers the Guardian and The Observer, the world&#8217;s oldest Sunday newspaper. Prior to his work at the Guardian and Observer, Paul reported from Africa for the Daily Telegraph, The Associated Press and Reuters. He has been a front line reporter of conflicts in Iraq, Sudam, Burundi, Somalia, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Pakistan. In 2003, he was embedded with British forces during the invasion of Iraq. Paul is the author of &#8220;The Secret Keeper,&#8221; a thriller set in Africa. John Mearsheimer is the R. Wendell Harrison Distinguished Service Professor of Political Science and the co-director of the Program on International Security policy at the University of Chicago. Mark has written for more than two decades on foreign affairs and international conflict. He has covered Central America, Haiti, Balkans and Iraq, among many other stories, He has written extensively about the development of American foreign policy during the late Cold War and afterward, and about violations of human rights during that time. His most recent book is, &#8220;Stripping Bare the Body: Politics Violence War.&#8221; Formerly a staff writer at The New Yorker, he is now a regular contributor to The New York Review of Books. Danielle Brian is the Executive Director of the Project On Government Oversight, a nonprofit government watchdog organization. Michael Lind is Policy Director of New America’s Economic Growth Program. He is a co-founder of the New America Foundation and was the first New America fellow. His most recent book is a collection of poetry entitled, “Parallel Lives” (Etruscan Press). His latest non-fiction book is, “The American Way of Strategy: U.S. Foreign Policy and The American Way of Life” (Oxford University Press). Trevor Aaronson is a 2010-11 Investigative Reporting Fellow at the University of California, Berkeley, where he developed a yearlong project about the FBI’s informants in US Muslim communities. Trevor is also associate director and co-founder of the Florida Center for Investigative Reporting, a nonprofit journalism organization that produces reporting about Florida and Latin America in English and Spanish. His work has won more than two dozen national and regional awards, including from the Livingston Awards, awarded for journalistic excellence by reporters under 35 years old, Society of Professional Journalists and Association of Alternative Newsweeklies. His work, “The Informants: The FBI has built a massive network of spies to prevent another domestic attack. Paul Rogers is professor of peace studies at Bradford University, northern England. Paul is a weekly columnist on global security at openDemocracy.net, the most recent column being, “America and Afghanistan: politics in charge.” He also writes an international security monthly briefing for the Oxford Research Group. His latest book is “Why We’re Losing the War on Terror” (Polity) which focuses on the post-9/11 era and explains why a new security paradigm is needed. Paul has been called, “one of the world’s leading security experts.” Also, look for the third edition of his 2002, “Losing Control: Global Security in the 21st Century” (Pluto Press).


Christian Parenti is a contributing editor at The Nation magazine, a Puffin Foundation Writing Fellow at The Nation Institute, and a visiting scholar at the City University of New York. award-winning journalist Johann Hari writes for many publications including a twice-weekly column for the Independent, one of Britain&#8217;s leading newspapers, and the Huffington Post. Last year, Johann won the Martha Gellhorn Prize for journalism, and became the youngest person ever to be short-listed for Journalist of the Year at the British Press Awards. In 2008 he became the youngest person to ever win the George Orwell Prize, Britain&#8217;s leading award for political writing. He was named &#8216;Journalist of the Year&#8217; for his 2007 reporting on the war in Congo by Amnesty International in 2009. His reporting from Bangladesh was named the &#8216;Story of the Year&#8217; at the most recent Environmental Press Awards. Johann&#8217;s most recent writing includes, &#8220;It&#8217;s not only Strauss Kahn who should be on trial. Lewis Lapham, editor of Lapham’s Quarterly and formerly editor of Harper’s Magazine, Lewis is the author of numerous books, including, most recently, &#8220;Pretensions to Empire: Notes on the Criminal Folly of the Bush Administration&#8221; (The New Press). His latest essay is, &#8220;The Midas Touch: Supply and demand has turned food production into big-money business,&#8221; but as Lewis Lapham explains, what is profitable is not necessarily edible. Bob Kincaid is board president of West Virginia based Coal River Mountain Watch which has been working against mountaintop removal since 1998. This week, hundreds of activists have been following the path of the 1921 coal miners march that ended in the Battle for Blair Mountain. Saturday, they expect at least 1,500 more supporters to join them as they protest planned mountaintop removal of historic Blair Mountain.


Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter Chris Hedges is a weekly columnist at Truthdig and a senior fellow at The Nation Institute.
