    re: the new stops on the LA Metro: Actually, the "honor system" is pretty common for subways. Not in the US, but in many other places (Berlin, Budapest, etc) there are no turnstiles, but transit control people do random ticket checks. [Interestingly, Paris doubles down: they have both turnstiles AND control agents occasionally popping up on train cars.] Anyway, there's some useless metro knowledge for you.
