  • Dr. Alia Brahimi is a Research Fellow at the London School of Economics (LSE) and Political Science, and a Senior Research Associate at the University of Oxford. Alia is currently conducting research on the conflict in Syria for an European Research Council-funded program on Security in Transition, based at the LSE. The program examines the ‘security gap’ between existing security capabilities and the reality of everyday experiences of insecurity in the region. Her work examines the moral justifications given for warfare, as well as jihadi ideology and strategy. Her latest book is, “Jihad and Just War in the War on Terror” (Oxford University Press). Her most recent writing at Al Jazeera includes, “Syria Street, Lebanon: Sentiment about Syria in Lebanon is mixed, as refugees flood in and survive thanks to goodwill,” and “The dilemma for Syria’s neighbors: How Syrian domestic repression has immediately affected its allies – Iran, Hezbollah and Iraq.” In March, she also published the article, “Al Qaeda since 9/11.”
  • Ross Perlin is a graduate of Stanford, the University of London’s School of Oriental and African Studies, and Cambridge. Ross has written for, the New York Times, Time magazine, Lapham’s Quarterly, Guardian, Daily Mail and Open Democracy. We’ll be speaking with Ross about his just-released in-paperback, “Intern Nation: How to Earn Nothing and Learn Little in the Brave New Economy” (Verso).
  • Gareth Porter is an investigative historian and journalist specializing in US national security policy. Gareth is the author of, “Perils of Dominance: Imbalance of Power and the Road to War in Vietnam.” His most recent writing includes the report, “The Truth Behind the Official Story of Finding Bin Laden,” and “US-Afghan Pact Won’t End War – Or US Special Operations Forces Night Raids.”
