It’s a crime spree! Murder rates in Philadelphia continue to climb despite homicides dropping across the US. Philly’s now murder capitol of US cities with a population over more than a million. ‘To Serve and Protect’ is definitely not what some police are doing. An Afghan cop drugged then killed nine of his colleagues. However, there are some attempted assassinations being stopped in Afghanistan – or so reports claim. A former Afghan governor may have been behind a plot to assassinate American, British and French ambassadors. That’s not the only assassination plot taking place in the Af-Pak region. The leader of an anti-Taliban Pakistani militia has been targeted for assassination by the extremist group. Of course, merchants of hate are not limited to that area. This week, Europe’s Fascists and racists are holding a conference that will be protested by the left. In Russia, another step toward institutionalizing hate against homosexuals has been taken. In Burma, a different kind of crime is being alleged. Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi says Burma’s voting irregularities go “beyond what is acceptable for democratic elections.” Meanwhile, India’s bribery scandal involving military leaders, lobbyists and defense contractors is now being investigated by the government. The ultimate price to pay for your crimes is, of course, death. If you want know more about capital punishment, you can tune into China’s reality TV show, “Interviews Before Execution” – that is until the show itself was killed in December.
